The U.S. Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) produces two independently derived measures of employment on a monthly basis. The establishment, or payroll, measure is based on payroll records and measures employment in nonagricultural industries. The second measure, household employment, is based on a survey and measures civilian, noninstitutional employment of persons aged 16 years and older and includes agricultural workers and self-employed individuals. |
