that risk is a natural consequence of trading. Actually risk is a consequence of just waking up in the morning. In order to become outstanding in any human endeavor, we need to accept risk. When we are able to accept risk in everything we do, we can begin the process of changing our disempowering beliefs and references. The third step is to increase the beliefs that combat fear and decrease or eliminate the beliefs that encourage fear. The fourth and last step is to reexamine the beliefs and references that actually make us fearful. As we do, we can change our perception of them by asking intelligent questions.
As previously mentioned, questions have an incredible power to influence the ability of the mind to perceive new information. What beliefs and virtues would tend to decrease the amount of fear you could experience? Your beliefs about faith, confidence, discipline, courage, intuition, persistence, integrity, and flexibility would all tend to control the amount of fear you could experience. Is there a situation where you consistently experience fear while trading? If so, what thoughts are you experiencing? What beliefs are those thoughts based upon? Are your beliefs totally accurate? Are they empowering? What else could they mean? If you were to change a belief so that it was totally empowering, what would it be?
By using questions, we can begin to change the references that allow us to experience fear. As we change these references so they empower us, we will be less susceptible to fear. Finally, we must exercise disciplineto focus on beliefs that allow us to control fear and to remain focused on the desired outcome. Fear can disempower us only if we lack mental discipline to remain focused on what we desire and on the beliefs that enable us to accomplish our goals.
If you truly want to banish fear from controlling your life and your abilities as a trader, you must have the discipline to stay totally focused in the present moment. You experience fear when you have an undisciplined mind that allows you to focus either on references that caused you pain in the past or on potential new threats that may lead you to feel pain in the future.
Always remember that FEAR is nothing more than false evidence appearing real. Fear has a very hard time surviving when you discipline your mind to focus only on the present momentand decide to take action.
