Understanding the ISP
Get all the bandwidth you can. It is reasonably inexpensive now, and you cannot get too much bandwidth. Your processor easily will handle all the data you can shove into it.
Type of Bandwidth Connection
There are three types of connection:
"Point-to-Point" Connection
A dedicated circuit between you and your ISP. These are the fastest connections, like T-3, T-1, DSL, cable, or ISDN. In our experience, these are the most stable connections as well. All of these choices will usually give you as much speed as you need for direct access trading, with two caveats:
A cable connection, which is shared by others on the same cable line in your neighborhood, can suffer serious reductions in speed at those times when many of your neighbors are online with you.
An ISND connection, while dedicated, runs at speeds from 64kbps to 128kbps. The 64kbps may be too slow for the most powerful trading systems.
A point-to-point connection is the type of connection you want, if it is available in your area.
