run from pit to pit as easily as the DAET trader goes from stock to stock. There always seems to be a window of opportunity somewhere in the electronic environment. That's not to say one will always make money chasing this activity; however, an opportunity to profit almost always exists.
The Ticker
Chart 2-2 illustrates a ticker displaying activity on the Nasdaq 100 index stocks. In order to qualify as a component of the Nasdaq 100 index a company must have a minimum market capitalization (market price times the number of shares outstanding) of $500 million and an average daily trading volume of at least 100,000 shares. Therefore, each of those stocks should be so well capitalized and actively traded that no one market maker could move the price.
You can customize your ticker to add (or delete) any stocks that you may want to monitor. Traders usually have a ticker displaying activity on the components of the Nasdaq 100 index and a ticker displaying activity on a selected basket of stocks.
