So let me ask you a question: What exactly is fear? What has to happen for you to experience fear? How do you know that you are experiencing fear? Which of your needs (if any) is fear meeting?
Remember, as an acronym FEAR stands for false evidence appearing real. What exactly does that mean? Fear is an emotional feeling that your conscious and perhaps unconscious mind is experiencing because it is apprehensive, sensing impending danger to your beliefs, rules, or values. As your mind experiences these feelings, it is remembering the stored-away references that are in some way linked to this current event. The references could be real or imagined; they could be accurately remembered (highly doubtful) or full of misrepresentations. In fact, your references are in all probability more false than true. Remember that your ability to accurately represent the event to your mind is determined by your beliefs. It is your beliefs that are influencing your ability to perceive the event as it is actually unfolding. The more emotionally intense the references, the more likely the event will be represented in your mind in an erroneous manner. Consequently your ability to take action will be adversely affected.
Fear originates because your mind (consciously and/or unconsciously) is undisciplined. The root of the problem is that your current beliefs have allowed fear to grow in your mind until it is almost unmanageable. When you accept the validity of disempowering references and beliefs, you are guaranteeing more fear in the future.
Fear will always give you more rigidity (traders have to possess an open mind), despair, anxiety, doubt, indecision, hesitancy (ever wonder why it is so hard to "pull the trigger"), frustration, anger, and pain. Fear is the reason that 99 percent of all new traders eventually quit their attempt to trade. Fear is an emotional feeling that will cripple anyone in any endeavor. It is an emotion that must be dealt with today, so that it will have less power in the future. There is no way to totally eliminate fear at all times, since it is a normal emotion in every sane individual. People who never experience fear have nothing to valueeven life itself. The secret is to control and minimize any fear that arises before trading. You can then trade in a mental and emotional state untinted by fear.
For most of us, fear arises over the possibility of incurring a monetary loss, missing a trade that subsequently becomes a huge winner, prematurely exiting a winning trade and thus missing extra profits, losing selfesteem, feeling shame or embarrassment, being flat-out wrong about the market, or perhaps most importantly losing a valued belief. We fear losing a valued belief because we know that doing so will force us to change. Unfortunately, the majority of traders out there believe that change equals
