CHART 6-3.
The Market Minder.
Nasdaq 100 index ($NDX), the U.S. 30-year Treasury bond future index (/USH8), and the S&P 500 cash index ($SPX). You can also watch the price of any stock you desire, such as Sun Microsystems (SUNW).
The second column in the MarketMinder chart is entitled ''Last" because it reflects the last price. Between the "Last" column and the "Change" column is a directional arrow that shows green on the up arrow (increase) and red on the down arrow (decrease).
The "Change" column shows the plus or minus change for the day. Both the "Last" and the "Change" columns are color-coded green for increase and red for decrease. This is what I call the "Christmas tree."
The ability to remember numbers and note rapidly changing prices is integral to success. Great traders can trade off the ticker tape and ECNs by remembering the quoted bid and offer prices of every important market maker on most of the stocks they are trading. This ability to focus on moving numbers is a God-given gift. It is a combination of good eyes and good memory, which may translate into dollars by ringing the cash register early and often. Today, however, computers can assist people who have been neglected by God as to this innate gift.
